CLINTON, NY – The Amherst College women's hockey team distributed its scoring throughout the game, as the visiting Lord Jeffs found the back of the net once in each period to move past host Hamilton College 3-1 in NESCAC action. Amherst improves to 12-4-2 (8-3-2 NESCAC), while Hamilton falls to 6-9-1 (4-5-1 NESCAC).
Sophomore Lindsey Harrington (Westford, MA) gave the Jeffs a 1-0 lead with a power-play goal at the 6:14 mark of the first period, with sophomore Anna MacLean (Edina, MN) picking up the assist. Lauren Tomford tied the score with her own power play tally on assists from Kerry Leonard and Kate Marek at 9:38 of the second period.
Sophomore Tarasai Karega (Detroit, MI) put Amherst in front for good with 5:25 left in the second as the teams skated 3-on-3. First-year Kirsten Dier (Appleton, WI) picked up her 13th assist and first-year Kate Dennett (Highland Ranch, CO) also assisted on the game-winner. Harrington notched her seventh goal this season just 5:12 into the third period to provide the Jeffs some cushion. Junior Megan Quinn (Wakefield, MA) picked up the assist.
Despite the loss, the Continentals held a 31-13 advantage in shots, forcing Amherst's first-year goaltender Krystyn Elek (Summerville, SC) to come up with some big saves. Caitlin Connelly picked up a save in 1:42 of action for Hamilton, while Kathryn Manning stopped nine shots in 55:26.
The Jeffs, who received three votes in the latest USCHO.com NCAA Division III Top 10 poll, are 9-0-2 in their last 11 games. They return to action Sunday for a non-conference match-up at Utica College. Game time is set for 2 p.m.
