AMHERST, MA – Amherst College first-year goaltender Krystyn Elek (Summerville, SC) was named NESCAC Player of the Week for women's ice hockey after leading the Lord Jeffs to shutout victories over conference foes Hamilton College and Trinity College. Elek is the second member of the Amherst squad to earn Player of the Week honors this season.
The first-year goaltender recorded a shutout in Amherst's 3-0 win over Hamilton College, picking up 24 saves in 60 minutes of action, and followed up by recording 14 saves in 40 minutes of shutout action in the Jeffs' 4-0 win over Trinity College. Elek has been flawless in her last 10 periods of action, having not surrendered a goal since the first period of Amherst's 1-0 loss to Middlebury College Dec. 2.
Elek is currently ranked second in the NESCAC in goals against average (1.53) and save percentage (0.925), and has played a significant role in making Amherst (6-4/5-3 NESCAC) the third-ranked team in the conference.
Amherst returns to action Monday, Jan. 8 for a non-conference road match-up with MIT at 7 p.m.
