ST. PAUL, MN – The Amherst College women's hockey team traveled to Minnesota for a non-conference match-up with Bethel University in day one of the Jeffs' road trip. Amherst picked up its fifth shutout of the season, edging the Royals 2-0 to improve to 8-4 (5-3 NESCAC) on the season.
Amherst provided all of the offense it would need early in the game, netting two goals in the opening 11 minutes of the first period. Sophomore Anna MacLean (Edina, MN) netted the game-winner after picking up a loose puck on a rebound just two minutes into the game, and first-year Kirsten Dier (Appleton, WI) added an insurance goal nine minutes later, with first-year Kate Dennett (Highland Ranch, CO) and sophomore Tarasai Karega (Detroit, MI) picking up the assist.
First-year goaltender Krystyn Elek (Summerville, SC) stopped 17 shots to pick up the win for Amherst, while Beth Spurrier picked up 32 saves for the Royals. Elek has now gone 13 consecutive periods without allowing a goal, a streak dating back to Dec. 2.
