Kelly Leads Jeffs to 4-3 Overtime Win at UMass Boston

BOSTON, MA - First-year Katharine Kelly (Milwaukee, WI) lit the lamp just 35 seconds into overtime to give Amherst College a 4-3 non-conference women's hockey victory at UMass Boston on Tuesday night. Amherst improved to 4-8-5, while UMass Boston fell to 7-9.

The host Beacons took a 2-0 lead with power-play scores from sophomore Andrea Ciarletta and first-year Audrey C. Deguire, but Amherst answered with three straight scores to take a one-goal advantage with 10:33 left in regulation. Junior Leah Kaplan (Buffalo, NY) notched her sixth goal of the season at the 18:06-mark of the second session, and sophomore Meg Dickoff (Minnetonka, MN) tallied her first and second goals of the year 1:48 and 9:27 into the third frame, respectively. UMass Boston scored its third power-play goal to tie the game and force the extra session with 8:32 left in the period as first-year Casey Turner found the net.

Amherst attacked immediately in overtime, and junior Renee Sisti (Coventry, CT) fired a shot at Beacon rookie netminder Maggie Carmany. Carmany managed to deflect the blast, but Kelly stuffed home the rebound for the game-winning score.

Carmany finished with 31 saves, while Amherst sophomore goalie Lindsay Grabowski (Princeton, NJ) was credited with 24 stops.

Amherst returns to action Friday at 7 p.m. at NESCAC rival Connecticut College.
