Jeffs Blanked at Top-Ranked Middlebury

MIDDLEBURY, VT - The Amherst College women's hockey team fell to 2-2-1 (2-2-1 NESCAC) with a 4-0 conference loss at top-ranked NESCAC rival Middlebury College (6-0/5-0 NESCAC) on Friday night.

After a scoreless first period, Lorna Gifis gave the host Panthers a 1-0 lead when she scored from the slot on a rebound. Emily Quizon made it a 2-0 game as she one-timed a pass from Gifis for a power-play goal at 6:17 of the second period. Middlebury then took at 3-0 lead just 29 seconds into the third period when Quizon scored on a breakaway. Tory MacNeil snapped in a shot driving to the net at 12:51 for the game's final tally.

Quizon ended the game with two goals and an assist, while Gifis added a goal and a pair of assists. Kate Kogut made a dozen saves in goal for the shutout, while rookie Stacey Johnston (Kingston, Ontario) tallied 34 stops for Amherst.

Amherst returns to action tomorrow (Saturday) at 3 p.m. at NESCAC and Little Three foe Williams College.
