Jeffs Tie Visiting Colby, 2-2

AMHERST, MA - The Amherst College women's hockey team rebounded from Friday night's 4-1 home conference loss to sixth-ranked Bowdoin with a 2-2 tie against visiting NESCAC rival Colby College on Saturday afternoon. Sophomores Tes Siarnacki (Gardner, MA) and Rachel Simon (West Orange, NJ) each scored for the Jeffs, who moved to 2-4-3 overall and 2-4-2 in conference play. Colby now stands at 3-3-1 (2-2-1 NESCAC).

Amherst drew first blood just 55 seconds into the game when sophomore Emily Cronin (Arlington, MA) and rookie Katharine Kelly (Milwaukee, WI) found Siarnacki for her fourth goal of the season. Colby rebounded with a goal in the second period and another in the third, as first-year Lauren Goethals (Needham, MA) and senior tri-captain Heather DeVito (Arlington, MA) each found the back of the net. Amherst's Simon then notched her fourth goal of the season with 6:23 left in regulation, tying her with Siarnacki and junior Renee Sisti (Coventry, CT) for the team lead and sending the game into overtime. Amherst rookie forward Elizabeth Ditmore (Excelsior, MN) assisted on the game-tying tally.

Amherst dominated play in the extra session when they outshot the Mules 6-0, but Colby first-year netminder Genevieve Triganne (Pointe-Claire, Quebec) was stellar between the pipes, finishing with 28 saves on the afternoon. Amherst rookie goalie Stacey Johnston (Kingston, Ontario) went untested in overtime but matched Triganne with 28 saves.

Amherst returns to action Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. against visiting NESCAC foe Connecticut College.
