Jeffs Suffer 9-3 Setback at No. 7 Bowdoin

BRUNSWICK, ME - The Amherst College women's hockey team suffered a 9-3 setback at seventh-ranked Bowdoin College on Saturday. Amherst sophomore forward Alena Harrison (Westwood, MA) posted a goal and an assist and classmate Rachel Simon (West Orange, NJ) dished out a pair of assists as the Jeffs fell to 3-6-5 (3-5-3 NESCAC).

The host Polar Bears scored three consecutive goals to open the game before Harrison answered with a power-play tally off a feed from Simon at the 12:30-mark. Bowdoin sophomore Katie Forney, who finished with two goals and an assist, netted a short-handed goal to give the Polar Bears a 4-1 edge at the end of the first period. The Jeffs pulled back within two on another power-play goal 3:14 into the second frame as Harrison and classmate Kirsten Forsberg (Kenilworth, IL) found junior Leah Kaplan (Buffalo, NY) for the score, but Bowdoin responded with three straight scores to put the game out of reach. Kaplan tallied her fifth goal of the season 12:05 into the second session to cap the Jeffs' scoring.

Amherst sophomore goalie Lindsay Grabowski (Princeton, NJ) was credited with 31 stops, while Bowdoin junior Cat MacEachern posted 17 saves as the Polar Bears improved to 11-3-1 (8-1 NESCAC)

Amherst returns to action Friday at 6 p.m. against visiting NESCAC archrival Williams College.
