Jeffs Blanked by No. 10 Williams, 2-0

AMHERST, MA - The Amherst College women's hockey team was shut out by visiting 10th-ranked NESCAC rival Williams College 2-0 on Friday night. Williams senior Annie Snodgrass (Washington, DC) tallied the game-winner 3:05 into the second period as the Ephs improved to 8-6-2 (6-3-2 NESCAC), while Amherst dropped to 3-7-5 (3-6-3 NESCAC).

Amherst battled the Ephs through a scoreless opening session as sophomore goalie Lindsay Grabowski (Princeton, NJ) led a stingy defense. Grabowski notched seven of her 24 saves in the first period, including a clutch kick-save in the last minute. The Jeffs nearly took the lead 2:30 into the second as sophomore Alena Harrison (Westwood, MA) flipped a shot over the pads of Williams first-year netminder Kristin Sundet (Edina, MN). However, the puck slid just wide of the net, and Snodgrass gave the Ephs the lead on the ensuing possession, scoring off a feed from junior Rachel Barr (Enfield, CT). Williams first-year Caralyn Quan (Toronto, Ontario) added an insurance tally just 58 seconds into the final period to secure the lead. Amherst pulled Grabowski in the waning minutes of regulation and nearly scored again as sophomore Rachel Simon (West Orange, NJ) stole an Eph pass deep in the zone, but the Jeffs couldn't capitalize on the advantage. Sundet went the distance in goal, collecting 15 saves.

Amherst returns to action tomorrow (Saturday) at 3 p.m. against visiting top-ranked Middlebury College.
