Jeffs Fall to Top-Ranked Middlebury, 5-0

AMHERST, MA - The Amherst College women's hockey team held visiting top-ranked NESCAC rival Middlebury College to just two goals in the first two periods, but relinquished a trio of scores in the final frame en route to a 5-0 loss on Saturday afternoon. Middlebury senior Lorna Gifis (Princeton, NJ) notched a pair of goals as the Panthers improved to 15-1-1 (11-0-1 NESCAC), while Amherst fell to 3-8-5 (3-7-3 NESCAC).

Amherst's defense stood strong for the first 17 minutes of play, but the Middlebury finally got on the board as senior Allison Liati (Tenafly, NJ) caught the puck coming down the middle and fired it into the left side of the net for the 1-0 edge. Middlebury sophomore Alison Graddock (Stowe, VT) capitalized on a power play 53 seconds into the second frame, stuffing home a rebounded shot from classmate Shannon Tarrant (Brookfield, CT). Gifis tallied both her scores in the third period, and sophomore Emily McNamara (N. Hampton, NH) capped the Panthers' scoring with a short-handed goal with just over five minutes left in regulation.

Amherst sophomore goalie Lindsay Grabowski (Princeton, NJ) grabbed 25 saves, while junior Kate Kogut (Springfield, MA) posted 14 in the shutout for Middlebury.
