Simon Hat Trick Powers Jeffs Past Trinity

W. HARTFORD, CT - After tallying a goal and two assists in a 4-2 conference win at Wesleyan University on Friday night, sophomore defender Rachel Simon (West Orange, NJ) notched her second career hat track on Saturday evening as the Amherst College women's hockey team wrapped up its NESCAC regular-season slate with a convincing 4-0 victory at Trinity College (9-10-1/4-9-1 NESCAC). Amherst (8-9-5/6-7-3 NESCAC) has now won three in a row and five of its last six and sits in fourth place in the conference standings. Fifth-place Hamilton College (8-11-2/6-6-2 NESCAC) has two games remaining on its conference schedule, both at cellar-dwelling Connecticut College.

Sophomore Lindsay Grabowski (Princeton, NJ) was a stone wall in goal for the Jeffs, turning away 21 shots en route to her second shutout of the season and fourth of her career.

Junior forward Leah Kaplan (Buffalo, NY) ignited the rout with her eighth goal of the year just 5:17 into the opening period off an assist by sophomore Meg Dickoff (Minnetonka, MN). Simon added an unassisted tally in the first period and a pair of scores in the second, courtesy of respective feeds from rookie Elizabeth Ditmore (Excelsior, MN) and sophomore Tes Siarnacki (Gardner, MA). Simon leads the Jeffs and stands sixth in the NESCAC with 27 points on 10 goals and 17 assists.

Amherst hosts non-league foe St. Anselm College Wednesday at 7 p.m. before traveling to Williams College for Friday night's (7 p.m.) non-league tilt against Elmira. The seven-team NESCAC Postseason Championship Tournament will commence with quarterfinal play on Saturday, Feb. 26, with the semifinals and finals set for the following weekend.
