Jeffs Crush Connecticut College, 5-1

AMHERST, MA - The Amherst College women's hockey team crushed visiting NESCAC foe Connecticut College 5-1 on Tuesday night. Amherst sophomore Tes Siarnacki (Gardner, MA) scored a pair of goals and dished out an assist as the Jeffs improved to 3-4-3 (3-4-2 NESCAC).

Amherst jumped on the board 6:36 into play as sophomore Rachel Simon (West Orange, NJ) netted her fifth goal of the season, sneaking a shot just inside the right post for the early advantage. The Jeffs pushed their lead to 2-0 at the 15:15-mark as junior Renee Sisti (Coventry, CT) found Siarnacki from behind the net for the point-blank score.

After the Jeff defense killed a pair of penalties to start the second frame, Siarnacki scored her team-high sixth goal of the year at the 10:00-mark, and just 1:31 later Simon slipped a pass through the crease to find Sisti wide open on the left side for the fourth score of the game. Amherst rookie Christa Porcaro (Pelham, NY) capped the Jeffs' scoring in the final minute of the second session, battling for the puck near the goal and then banking her shot off the left post for her first collegiate score. Conn. College junior Caitlin Sommer (Voorheesville, NY) prevented the shutout for the Camels, finding the net with just over three minutes left in regulation.

Amherst rookie goalie Stacey Johnston (Kingston, Ontario) needed just 14 saves to earn the win, while Conn. College junior netminder Gabby Petrill (Greensburg, PA) earned 26 saves as the Camels fell to 3-8 (2-5 NESCAC).

Amherst returns to action Saturday at 2 p.m. at non-conference foe Augsburg College.
