Jeffs Fall to Second-Ranked Bowdoin, 3-0

AMHERST, MA - The Amherst College women's hockey team fell to second-ranked NESCAC foe Bowdoin College, 3-0, Friday night at Orr Rink. Senior defender Beth Muir (North Chelmsford, MA) paced the Polar Bears with a goal and an assist, while junior forward Britney Carr (Conway, NH) dished out a pair of assists.

The visitors pierced the scoring column 4:21 into the game when junior forward Gillian McDonald (Hudson, Quebec) gathered a rebound and lifted a left-handed wrister into the back of the net on the power play, giving Bowdoin a 1-0 advantage heading into the second. First-year forward Kelsey Wilcox (Cumberland, ME) slapped a one-timer in from the slot early in the second, extending the lead to 2-0. Muir rounded the scoring out at 3-0 with a backhander that deflected off senior netminder Heidi Alexander's (Edina, MN) left arm before trickling across the goal line.

Rookie goalie Nathalie Morgan (Dieppe, New Brunswick) finished with seven saves to earn the shutout, while Alexander notched 33 for the Jeffs. With the loss, Amherst drops to 1-15-4 overall and 1-10-3 in conference play, while Bowdoin remains undefeated, improving to 17-0-2 and 11-0-1.

Amherst currently stands in eighth place in the conference standings. With two league games remaining, the Jeffs still remain in striking distance of qualifying for the seven-team NESCAC Postseason Championship Tournament and return to action Saturday at 3 p.m. against visiting conference foe Colby College.
