Jeffs Play to 2-2 Tie at Conn. College

NEW LONDON, CT - Senior co-captain goaltender Heidi Alexander (Edina, MN) stopped 42 shots, including six in overtime, to lead the Amherst College women's hockey team to a 2-2 draw at NESCAC rival Connecticut College on Saturday afternoon. First-year netminder Gabby Petrill (Greensburg, PA) made 48 stops of her own for the host Camels in 65 minutes of work.

Amherst jumped in front early, scoring just 3:40 into the game. Leah Kaplan (Buffalo, NY) was set up by senior co-captain Danielle Williams (Needham, MA) for the game's first score. The Jeffs added another goal midway through the second period. Tory Serues (Cambridge, MA) netted her second goal of the year off a rebound. Ali White (Brookline, MA) and Amanda Mattei (Windsor, CT) assisted.

Conn. College countered with two goals in the latter half of the second period to knot the score at 2-2. Senior Caley Boyd (New Canaan, CT) made it a 2-1 game with a goal at the 10:52 mark of the second. Freshman Erin Wing (Greene, ME) set the play up, delivering a pass to Boyd from the right point. Mallory Littman (Richboro, PA) also assisted on the score. Exactly one minute later, freshman Suzie Connor (Bridgeport, VT) stole an outlet pass from an Amherst defender and lit the lamp to even the score at two.

The Camels controlled the overtime period, outshooting the visitors 6-to-1, but the game ended in a draw. Amherst and Conn. will lock horns again in New London, Sunday at 1 p.m.
