Seventh-Seeded Amherst Ends Season with 9-0 Loss at Second-Seeded Middlebury in NESCAC Tournament Quarterfinals

MIDDLEBURY, VT - The seventh-seeded Amherst College women's hockey team ended its season with a 9-0 loss at second-seeded Middlebury College in the first round of the NESCAC Championship Tournament on Saturday. Panther junior forward Jean Butler (W. Hartford, CT) led the way, netting a pair of goals while classmate Kristin Reid (River Vale, NJ) dished out three assists.

Middlebury pierced the scoring column just 28 seconds into the contest when senior forward Angela Kapus (Milwaukie, OR) fired a wrister into the back of the net. The Panthers added another goal when rookie forward Emily Quizon (Chino Hills, CA) tickled the twine, giving the hosts a 2-0 lead heading into the second stanza.

Middlebury tacked on a trio of goals in the second and four more in the third to seal the victory. Amherst senior netminder Heidi Alexander (Edina, MN) finished with 38 saves in her final collegiate contest while junior Kati Madouras (White Plains, NY) notched six. With the loss, the Jeffs' season comes to an end at 3-17-4 overall, while the Panthers advance to the semifinal round and improve to 17-2-4.
