Jeffs Fall at Hamilton, 8-2

CLINTON, NY - The Amherst College women's hockey team fell at NESCAC foe Hamilton College, 8-2, Tuesday night. Rookie forward Zoe Baldwin (Nepean, ONT) paced the Continentals with a hat trick and a pair of assists, while first-year forward Jess Matthews (Voorheesville, NY) notched two goals to lead the Jeffs.

Hamilton tallied five goals in the opening period. Rookie forward Jane Bradley (Casselman, ONT) broke the ice 2:37 into the contest and Baldwin netted her second goal of the game to help give the hosts a 5-1 advantage heading into the second stanza. The Jeffs cut the lead to 5-2 when Matthews scored her second goal, assisted by sophomores Sarah Mason (Minneapolis, MN) and Annie Grabowski (Princeton, NJ).

The Continentals tacked on three goals in the final period to set the final score at 8-2. Senior netminder Heidi Alexander (Edina, MN) finished with 24 saves for the Jeffs while senior Jen Kroleski (New Rochelle, NY) turned aside 22 shots for Hamilton. With the loss, Amherst drops to 1-8-3 overall and 1-6-2 in conference play while the Continentals improve to 7-4 and 5-2.

The Jeffs return to action Saturday at 7 p.m. at fourth-ranked NESCAC rival Middlebury College.
