Jeffs Edged at Wesleyan, 5-2

MIDDLETOWN, CT - After skating to a 3-3 tie Friday night, the Amherst College women's hockey team fell at NESCAC and Little Three rival Wesleyan University, 5-2, Saturday. Sophomore forward Anna Siliciano (Ithaca, NY) notched a hat trick to lead the Cardinals, while senior forward Danielle Williams (Needham, MA) tallied a goal and an assist for the Jeffs.

The Jeffs broke the ice 5:11 into the contest when junior forward Tory Serues (Cambridge, MA) netted her fifth goal of the season. Wesleyan countered less than a minute later when senior forward Kiersten Von Trapp (Stowe, VT) found the back of the net. Shortly thereafter, Siliciano tickled the twine, giving the hosts a 2-1 advantage heading into the second.

Junior forward Andrea Snow (Amherst, NH) pierced the scoring column 1:05 into the second, extending the lead to 3-1. The Jeffs retaliated when Williams scored her team-leading seventh goal, cutting the deficit to 3-2. Moments later, Siliciano tallied her second goal to give the Cardinals a 4-2 lead. She then tacked on an empty-netter late in the third to earn the hat trick and secure the win.

Senior goalie Heidi Alexander (Edina, MN) finished with 29 saves for the visitors, while Wesleyan junior Elizabeth Courtney (Belmont, MA) turned aside 10 shots. With the loss, the Jeffs drop to 1-12-4 overall and 1-9-3 in league play, while the Cardinals avenged the 2-1 loss they suffered at Amherst earlier this season, improving to 6-9-1 and 4-8-0.

Amherst will look to finish its regular season slate strong with a six-game home-stand that begins Saturday at 7:30 p.m. against visiting non-league foe SUNY-Plattsburgh.
