Jeffs Down Holy Cross, 3-1

AMHERST, MA - The Amherst College women's hockey team downed visiting non-league foe Holy Cross, 3-1, Wednesday night at Orr Rink. Senior co-captain Danielle Williams (Needham, MA) notched a goal and dished out an assist to lead the Jeffs.

Amherst drew first blood 11:52 into the contest when junior forward Ali White (Brookline, MA) netted her fourth goal of the season, assisted by Williams. The Crusaders quickly countered when rookie forward Kathleen Remsberg (Arlington, MA) tallied, evening the score at 1-1 heading into the second.

The Jeffs regained the lead 4:31 into the second when first-year forward Renee Sisti (Coventry, CT) tickled the twine, assisted by sophomores Ellie Roe (Edina, MN) and Sarah Mason (Minneapolis, MN). The hosts added an insurance goal midway through the third when Williams stuffed in a rebound off a shot from the point by rookie defender Amanda Mattei (Windsor, CT).

Senior netminder Heidi Alexander (Edina, MN) finished with 24 saves, while senior Jenelle DiSanto (North Reading, MA) also turned aside 24 for Holy Cross. With the victory, the Jeffs improve to 3-15-4 overall while the Crusaders drop to 14-7-1.

Amherst returns to action for its final regular season game Saturday at 7:30 p.m. against visiting conference foe Hamilton College. The Jeffs (2-10-3 NESCAC) are currently seventh in league play, ahead of Trinity College (2-12-2 NESCAC) and Conn. College (1-11-2 NESCAC). The seven-team NESCAC Tournament will begin on March 1.
