Jeffs Edge Visiting Trinity, 2-1

AMHERST, MA - Despite losing sophomores Katie Potter (Ridgewood, MJ) and Elissa Landes (Potomac, MD) to the flu, a depleted Amherst College women's hockey team defeated visiting NESCAC foe Trinity College, 2-1, Friday night at Orr Rink. Sophomore forward Tory Serues (Cambridge, MA) paced the Jeffs, tallying the game-winning goal and an assist while junior goaltender Heidi Alexander (Edina, MN) finished with 32 saves for Amherst.

The Jeffs came out of the locker room determined to avenge the loss they suffered at the hands of the Bantams earlier this season. However, the visitors drew first blood 18:06 into the game when co-captain defender Jessica Martin (Fort Meyers, FL) wristed a shot from point blank range past Alexander, giving the visitors a 1-0 advantage heading into the second stanza.

Amherst countered with a pair of goals in the second period en route to the victory. Junior forward Danielle Williams (Needham, MA) tallied her team-leading sixth goal of the season 7:28 into the period, firing the puck through the wickets of Bantam sophomore goalie Mimi MacKinnon (Glen Cove, NY) on a breakaway, after taking a pass off the boards from Serues. Serues tallied the game-winner moments later, knocking in a rebound off first-year forward Ellie Roe's (Edina, MN) shot from the slot.

With the victory, the Jeffs improve to 5-12 overall and 4-10 in conference play, moving them to sixth place in the NESCAC standings. The Bantams fall to 3-12 overall and 2-11 in the NESCAC with the loss. Amherst returns to action Saturday at 3 p.m. against visiting NESCAC foe Wesleyan University.
