WELLESLEY, Mass. – The three-time defending champions of the Ann S. Batchelder Invitational, Amherst College sits in fourth place after Day 1 of this year's event, which began Saturday at Nehoiden Golf Course.
The Mammoths are 13 strokes back of second place Middlebury after carding a 332 on opening day.
Morgan Yurosek '20 is tied for 11th overall after opening the day with an 80 on her scorecard. Yurosek won this tournament as a first-year in 2016 and again last year.
Teammates Lily Worden '21 and Katie Mina Lee '22 are tied for 14th with first-round scores of 82. Mina Lee is competing as an individual representing Amherst, as is senior Emily Young, who sits tied for 23rd with a round of 85.
Junior Isabelle Ouyang opened the tournament with an 84 and is tied for 21st, while India Gaume '22 fired an 86 and first-year Janelle Jin shot an 87. All seven Amherst golfers feature in the top 30 of the 42-golfer field.
Williams College leads with a Day 1 296 on the card, including a 70 from first round leader Joanna Kim.
Final round play begins with a shotgun start at 9:00 AM tomorrow at the Par 72, 5,680 yard course.
