Men’s Swim & Dive Topples Wesleyan, 174-102

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – The Amherst men's swimming and diving team traveled to Little Three rival Wesleyan University, walking away with the 174-102 victory in their second dual meet of the season in the Wesleyan Natatorium on Monday night.

The Mammoths are set to return to action after the Thanksgiving break when they travel to Middlebury College on December 1st, beginning at 1:00 PM.

Amherst swept the top-three spots in the first seven events, ending the day with top performances in eleven out of the sixteen events.


  • In the opening event, Amherst swept the top three spots with the first place team of Craig Smith '20, Sean Mebust '20, Jack Koravos '20, and Scott Romeyn '22 posting a time of 1:34.23 in the 200 yard medley relay.
  • Brandon Wang '20 secured first place in the 400 yard IM (4:19.19) while Adi Arifovic '21 (4:22.02) and Malcolm Scannell '22 (4:22.47) grabbed second and third place.
  • Charlie Seltzer '19 led the way for the Mammoths in the 200 yard freestyle with a time of 1:44.87, with Austin Lee '22 and Bobby Meyer '21 following seconds behind him.
  • Kou Li '21 marked a time of 24.08 seconds in the 50 yard backstroke to take the win; Smith followed 0.08 seconds behind Li for second place.
  • On the 10th event, Mebust notched a 26.80 second finish in the 50 yard breaststroke to continue the Mammoths dominant performance.
  • Eric Wong '20 took first in the 100 yard butterfly with a time of 52.36 seconds, Romeyn followed closely behind him with second place (54.00 seconds).
  • Tristan So '21 (21.53), Koravos (21.75) and Matt Sanders '21 (22.44) took the top-three positions in the 50 yard freestyle.  
  • In the first diving event, Bennett Fagan '20 recorded the top finish with a final score of 241.50. Tom Amsbry '22 took second with a score of 224.18. 
  • Li went on to win his second event of the day, posting 46.70 seconds in the 100 yard freestyle.
  • Smith received a time of 52.05 seconds on the 100 yard backstroke, while Dengler followed up right behind him with a time of 54.87.
  • In the 100 yard breaststroke, Mebust recorded his third win on the day with a time of 57.95.
