Joining the Mammoths in the fall of 2019-2020, T.J. Syner enters his first season on the bench for the Amherst College men's hockey team as an assistant coach.
Graduating from the University of Massachusetts Amherst with a degree in finance & operations management from the Isenberg School of Management in 2012, Snyer comes to the Mammoths following a season-long stint as an assistant coach at his alma mater – helping guide the Minutemen to a program record 31 wins and a Frozen Four appearance.
A two-year captain the University of Massachusetts, Snyer ended his collegiate career with 37 goals and 60 assists for 97 points in 135 games to rank 14th all-time on UMass' career scoring list and tied for 10th overall in career assists. Voted the team’s most valuable player 2012, Syner also picked up a Hockey East All-Conference Honorable Mention nod for his efforts during in his senior campaign.
Embarking on a career in the pros following graduation, Snyer turned in seven strong seasons in the professional hockey ranks from 2012 to 2018 – seeing action in the AHL (Hershey Bears), the ECHL (Reading Royals, Utah Grizzlies, Worcester Railers) and oversees in Italy (AlpsHL Gherdëina) and England (EIHL Coventry Blaze).
Proficient in skating, skill development and the teaching of strategies and team tactics, Syner has also acted as an assistant coach for the U16 Springfield Pics, a skill instructor at Paul Vincent Hockey School and Olympia Ice Hockey Academy, and is the founder of First Step Hockey School - an annual youth hockey program.
