The 3rd Annual Amherst Intramurals Spelling Bee was held on Thursday, November 30th, in the Friedmann Room of Keefe Campus Center. Although a large field originally signed up for the competition, many students dropped out at the last minute, leaving a tight, competitive pool. The words of the spelling bee were in large part food-related: contestants were eliminated on words such as mozzarella, hollandaise, boysenberry, and fettuccine. In the end, Jamie McNamara '19 was victorious, spelling both "belligerent" and "kaleidoscope" correctly, to defeat Caleb Williams '21E who tripped up on "ineffable". Corey Michalos, Director of Community Standards, was a guest judge for the event, and brought the poise and levity that are essential for a successful spelling bee.
