Goodson Honored by NESCAC for Excellence in Win Over Bowdoin

HADLEY, Mass. -- After an incredible performance in Amherst's 34-16 win over Bowdoin, junior cornerback Ricky Goodson has been named the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Defensive Player of the Week.

Goodson is the third Amherst defensive player in five weeks this year to be honored with a weekly award from the conference.

The native of Feasterville, Pennsylvania made several huge plays on Saturday in the win for Amherst (4-1).

Early in the game, he had a strip-sack on Bowdoin QB Austin McCrum, and the ball was scooped up by teammate Manni Malone '22 and returned for a touchdown to put Amherst ahead 13-0.

At the end of the first half, Goodson got around and blocked a 22-yard field goal by Michael Chen to keep Bowdoin scoreless through the break.

Finally, Goodson had an interception in the fourth quarter that he returned for a touchdown, though the score on the play was later brought back due to penalty. Goodson had five tackles on the day, along with the sack, forced fumble, block and interception.

Goodson, who has started in all five games for the Mammoths, has 25 tackles, including two tackles for a loss. He has forced a piar of fumbles and picked up his first sack and interception of the year on Saturday.

The Mammoths will look for back to back wins when they travel to Hamilton next Saturday for a 1:00 PM kickoff.
