Wellness, Lifetime Fitness and Recreational opportunities are provided by the Department of Physical Education and are open to all Amherst College students and members of the college community.  The program is flexible, robust, and designed to meet the needs and interests of individuals. There are a variety of offerings that provide fitness and well-being opportunities for the entire community. Recreational fitness opportunities are available based on facility hours and season.

Wellness & Fitness

Wellness & Fitness Classes are offered throughout each semester on a drop-in basis. These classes include but are not limited to Yoga, Tai Chi, Feldenkrais ATM, Pilates, PIYO and Zumba.


Lifetime Sports:  Lifetime Sports classes are offered each semester in two sessions (5-6 weeks each). 


Unit II classes will begin on Monday, October 21 and run through Friday, November 15.


*Indoor Cycling - Classes will be held in the Friends Room of Alumni Gym on Thursday at 12:00 - 1:00pm.



Vinyasa Yoga - Canceled Tuesday, November 26th!

Vinyasa Yoga is a form of yoga that connects breath to movement. My classes involve a fun, dynamic flow for beginner and intermediate yogis. We'll focus on strengthening and lengthening our bodies while always coming back to one of our most helpful tools, our breath. Each class will have a general theme which will focus on a particular area of the body and philosophy of the day. You will leave feeling balanced and energized physically, emotionally, and mentally! 

Tuesdays at 4:00-4:45pm in Conway Classroom.

** MBSR (Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction) and MSC (Mindful Self-Compassion) Courses with Valley Mindfulness

The recreational program, which includes skating, squash, swimming and tennis and is available to all members of the Amherst College community. These opportunities vary based on the season and specific facility hours.
