AMHERST, Mass. – First-year Katherine Treanor of the Amherst College women's cross country team captured an individual qualifying bid to compete in the NCAA Division III Championships after claiming third overall at the NCAA New England Regional on Nov. 12.
Thirty-two teams were selected to participate at the NCAA's, with the top-two seven person teams from each of the eight regions (16 teams) earning automatic qualifying bids, while fifty-six individuals, the first seven student-athletes from each region who are not a part of a qualifying team, also garnered bids to compete.
The reigning NESCAC Rookie of the Year, Treanor enters the Championship looking to be the fourth-ever harrier from the NESCAC to claim the NCAA individual title following a stellar debut season. First to cross the finish line for the Purple & White in every race this fall, Treanor will aim to build on the momentum from a third place finish at the Regionals in which she posted a collegiate-best 6k time of 21:22.37.
The women's 6-kilometer race slated to begin at 11 a.m. at "Tom" Sawyer State Park in Louisville, Kentucky.
