Women's Cross Country Claims Second at Little III Championships

Middletown, Conn. – Running the Wes Fuhrman '05 Trails at Wesleyan University at the Little Three Championships Saturday afternoon, the Amherst College women's cross country team posted a second place team finish.

First-year Katherine Treanor was the first Purple & White runner to cross the finish line in the 57-harrier 5k race, logging second overall behind a mark of 18:33.4. Also finishing inside the top-10 was Nicky Roberts '18 who posted a time of 19:03.5 to earn 10th overall. 

Notching back-to-back 14th and 15th place finishes, Cara Lembo '17 and Savanna Gornisiewicz '17 secured times of 19:15.7 and 19:17.1, respectively, while Veronica Rocco '19 rounded out Amherst's scoring runners with a mark of 19:33.6 to take 21st overall.

Also registering solid performances for Amherst, Tess Frenzel '17 recorded a 24th place finish with a time of 19:45.6, while Cat Lowdon '17 took 26th with a 19:51.3 mark.

Amherst returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 29 when they compete in the NESCAC Championships hosted by Colby College.

MEET NOTES

  • Williams claimed the Little III team crown with a score of 19, while Amherst (52 points) edged Wesleyan (69 points) to earn second overall.
  • Emma Zehner of Williams claimed the individual title with a time of 18:27.8, while Treanor finished second with an 18:33.4 mark. Williams first-year Carmen Bango rounded out the top-three finishers with a time of 18:33.9.
