Mammoths Top Rival Ephs in Four Sets

AMHERST, Mass. – For the third straight year, Amherst College women's volleyball defeated Williams College in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) action.

On Saturday afternoon at LeFrak Gymnasium, the Mammoths topped the Eps 3-1 (25-20, 19-25, 25-21, 25-16) for their fourth win in their last five matches.

Charlotte Duran '20 put up 41 assists and ten digs, along with three kills and two block assists as Amherst improved to 8-2 at home.

Williams falls to 11-8 overall and 5-4 in conference play despite a game-high 17 kills from Mia Weinland and 15 kills from Erin Denham.

Emily Kolsky '20 led a balanced Mammoth offense with 14 kills, hitting .275 on the day. First year Sophie Launsbach added nine kills and she and Claire Dennis '20 combined for 5.5 blocks.

Jamie Dailey '21 had seven kills and Daria Kim-Percy '21 posted eight kills and no errors on 18 attempts for a .444 hitting percentage.

For the Ephs, Alex Newton went for a double-double with ten digs and a game-high 49 assists.

The Mammoths took advantage of twelve service errors by the Ephs, but also fell victim to six aces, four of them by Williams libero Daiana Takashima, who also led all players with 17 digs.

Amherst continues an extended home-stand next Wednesday evening with a 7:00 PM game against Clark before their Hall of Fame Invitational on the weekend of October 19-20.
