BOSTON, Mass. – Securing their sixth three-set sweep this season, the Amherst College volleyball team remained unblemished on the year as they powered past UMASS-Boston, 3-0 Saturday afternoon at Clark Athletic Gym.
With the victory, the Mammoths improve to 9-0 overall, while the Beacons drop to 7-4. Amherst returns to the court on Friday, Sept. 28 when they host NESCAC rival Connecticut College at 7 p.m.
Hitting their stride midway through the opening set, the first stanza was tied at 12 all before the Mammoths put together a 12-3 run, headlined by two service aces by Hayes Honea '19, to earn the 25-15 victory.
Holding momentum in the second set, Amherst pulled away early and hit the 20-point mark before the Beacons were able to post a double digit score. Three errors by UMASS-Boston and a kill by Pearl Acord '21 lifted the Mammoths to the 25-12 win.
The third set was the most competitive of the three as Amherst trailed as late as the 16-14 mark, however the visitors finished strong once again, going on a 11-2 run to clinch the 3-0 match sweep.
Eileen Shi posted a match-high 14 kills for UMASS-Boston, while Carsen Komminsk and Macayla Chianco led the Beacons in assists and digs with 19 and 12, respectively.
Emily Kolsky '20 and Jamie Dailey '21 led a balanced Amherst attack, each securing eight kills, while Claire Dennis '20 added seven more kills to the stat sheet. With 27 assists, Charlotte Duran '20 led all players, while Skyleur Savage's '22 11 digs were an Amherst high.
