HARTFORD, Conn. – Emily Kolsky '20 and Cameron Hendricks '20 tallied 11 kills apiece to lead the Mammoths as the Amherst College volleyball team swept Trinity College, 3-0 (25-15, 25-21, 25-15) Friday evening at Oosting Gymnasium.
With the win, Amherst improves to 7-3 overall and to 1-1 in league action, while Trinity falls to 3-4 on the year (0-2 NESCAC). Amherst returns to action tomorrow, Saturday, Sept. 23 when they face Husson and Colby-Sawyer in tri-match action at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m., respectively.
Trading points to open the first stanza, the Mammoths then went on a 10-4 run to set the score at 18-10. Six kills, two Bantam errors and a Asha Walker '18 service ace closed out the set as Amherst clinched the 25-15 victory.
The Bantams jumped out to a 16-12 lead in the second, but a strategic Mammoths' timeout switched the momentum as Amherst tallied six answered points at the 19-15 mark to take a 21-19 edge. Kolsky and Hendricks teamed up to direct the Mammoths to the win, with Kolsky recording a kill and a service ace before Hendricks sealed the Amherst win, 25-21 with a kill.
Amherst notched a .250 hit percentage to cruise to a 25-15 victory in the third stanza as they finished off the 3-0 sweep of the Bantams.
- Kolsky and Hendricks each logged a contest-high 11 kills, while Marialexa Natsis '18 added nine kills for the Mammoths.
- Adelaide Shunk '20 doled out 16 assists to lead Amherst, while Charlotte Duran '20 dished out 15 helpers.
- Hayes Honea '19, Candace Chung '20 and Shunk led the return game, registering 15, 14, and 11 digs, respectively.
- Hanna Engstrom led the Bantams with eight kills, while Rebecca Chu posted a match leading 27 assists and Rachel Underwood notched 14 digs to lead Trinity.
