Jeffs Best Bowdoin College, 3-1

AMHERST, Mass. – Asha Walker '18 served up eight aces and recorded 11 digs to help the Amherst College volleyball team notch a 3-1 (25-22, 15-25, 26-24, 25-15) victory over Bowdoin College in Friday evening's NESCAC match at LeFrak Gymnasium.

With the win, Amherst improves to 19-6 overall, 7-2 in league action, while Bowdoin moves to 19-7 on the season, 5-4 in conference play.

Leading 2-1 in the match, Amherst pulled away in the fourth set thanks to a 10-0 run with the score tied at 10-10. Walker led the charge with six service aces, and the Jeffs used four other Bowdoin miscues to stake a 20-10 lead in the frame. The Polar Bears used a Christy Jewett kill to halt the run, and Jewett again struck with a kill to pull Bowdoin to within nine (22-13), but that's as close as it would get as Jennifer Mackinnon Krems '18 capped the set with her fifth kill of the night to give Amherst a 25-15 victory in the set, and a 3-1 win in the contest.

Nicole Gould '17 was stellar for the Jeffs hitting .344 on the strength of 13 kills on 32 attempts with just two mishits, while Maggie Danner '17 followed with eight. Lizzie Ahern added seven kills, while Nicole Carter '16 dished out a match-high 24 assists.

Katie Warshaw '16 led the Purple & White with 24 digs, Kelci Keeno '17 notched 13 digs, and Walker chipped in 11 digs to lead the defensive effort.

Jewett finished with a match-high 18 kills in defeat for Bowdoin, while Hailey Wahl totaled nine kills. Quincy Leech dished out 22 helpers and Clare McInerney added 17 assists.

Katie Doherty was superb in the back row for the Polar Bears digging 33 balls. Jewett added 17 digs, and Michelle Albright added 11 digs.

After trading wins in the first two sets, the sides battled through 12 tie scores and seven lead changes in the third set before a service error by Bowdoin broke a 24-24 deadlock, and an assisted block by Gould and Marialexa Natsis '18 secured the 26-24 victory for Amherst.

The Jeffs conclude regular season action on Saturday, Nov. 1 when they host Colby College at 2 p.m. at LeFrak Gymnasium.
