MEDFORD, Mass. – The Amherst College women's volleyball team posted a split with Tufts University and Endicott College in tri-match action on Saturday afternoon. The Jeffs fell 3-0 (25-13, 30-28, 25-23) to the host Jumbos in NESCAC action, before posting a 3-0 (26-24, 25-20, 25-12) victory over the Gulls in non-league play.
With the split, Amherst improves to 16-5 overall, 6-2 in NESCAC action. Tufts improves to 13-7 overall, 7-1 in conference play. Endicott moves to 11-13 on the season.
Tufts 3, Amherst 0
In Amherst's hard-fought 3-0 loss to Tufts, Maggie Danner '17 led the Jeffs with eight kills, while Jennifer Mackinnon Krems '18, Marialexa Natsis '18 and Nicole Gould '17 followed with five kills each.
Hayley Hopper led all hitters in the match with 15 kills, followed by Isabel Kuhel and Maddie Kuppe who notched 13 kills each. Kyra Baum dished out 42 helpers and Carolina Berger dug 12 balls in the winning effort for the Jumbos.
Amherst 3, Endicott 0
Against Endicott, Danner blasted a match-high 10 kills, followed by Natsis with eight and Gould with seven. Lizzie Ahern '16 chipped in five kills, Carter dished out 21 assists, and Bres notched 11 helpers in the winning effort.
Warshaw led all players with 21 digs, Asha Walker '18 added eight digs, and Danner contributed seven digs to help spark the Purple & White to the win. Bres and Carter finished with six digs each, while Walker and Carter served up four and three aces respectively.
Endicott was led by Elise Morgan who finished with nine kills, while Hayley Knapp added seven. Alleigh Vandemerkt notched 30 assists, Erika Trudon totaled 18 digs, and Jessica Petrucci chipped in 12 digs in the losing effort for the Gulls.
Amherst returns to action on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 24-25 during the 2014 Volleyball Hall of Fame Tournament.
