LEWISTON, Maine – Amherst College used 10 kills from Maggie Danner '17 and eight from Marialexa Natsis '18 to help pace the Jeffs to a 3-0 (25-16, 25-13, 25-19) sweep of Bates College in Saturday afternoon's NESCAC women's volleyball match at Alumni Gym.
With the win, Amherst improves to 14-4 overall, 5-1 in NESCAC play, while Bates moves to 8-10 on the season, 0-6 in league action.
Amherst setters Nicole Carter '16, who finished with 19 assists, and Kate Bres '17, who totaled 12 helpers, directed a balanced offensive attack. Danner and Natsis combined for 18 kills with 10 and eight respectively, while Lizzie Ahern '16 and Nicole Gould '17 added six kills each.
Katie Warshaw '16 was tremendous in defense with a match-high 20 digs, followed by 11 from Carter, nine from Asha Walker '18, and eight digs from Kelci Keen '17. Danner and Gould added seven digs each in the winning effort, while Bres served up five aces.
Chandler McGrath notched a match-high 12 kills and 11 digs, while Laryssa Schepel led the Bobcats with 17 digs. Tess Walther and Augy Silver added 14 and 12 digs respectively.
Walther and Jacqueline Forney combined for 26 of Bates' 30 assists, dishing out 14 and 12 respectively.
Amherst is back in action on Friday, Oct. 17 when it travels to NESCAC rival Conn. College for an 8 p.m. match.
