PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Amherst women's volleyball team earned a pair of 3-0 victories over Keene State on Saturday and finished the weekend 4-0 to claim the 2014 Johnson & Wales University Invitational.
First-year Marialexa Natsis was named the tournament's most outstanding player and libero Katie Warshaw '16 was named to the all-tournament team alongside Natsis. The Purple & White now stands at 6-2 on the season.
Match 1: Amherst 3, Keene State 0 (25-22, 25-22, 25-21)
In the Jeffs' first match against the Keene State, Maggie Danner '17 led all hitters with 10 kills, while Nicole Gould '17 added nine and six kills respectively. Warshaw continued her stellar defensive play, notching a match-best 17 digs, while Gould added seven digs.
In addition to her six kills, Natsis registered four solo blocks and senior Lauren Antion added three solo stuffs to highlight Amherst's 9.5 total blocks. Kate Bres '17 and Nicole Carter '16 directed the Jeffs' offensive output dishing out 13 and eight assists.
Match 2: Amherst 3, Keene State 0 (25-19, 25-23, 25-11)
In the second match between the sides on Saturday, Lizzie Ahern '16 and Danner floored a match-high eight kills each, followed by six kills from Gould and five from Natsis.
Bres and Carter combined for 22 of Amherst's 33 assists in the second tilt with the Owls, and Warshaw recorded 19 digs.
