CLINTON, N.Y. – The Amherst women's volleyball team won its fifth straight match Saturday, sweeping Hamilton 3-0 by scores of 25-10, 26-24 and 25-21 at Scott Field House.
With the win, the Jeffs improved to 13-5 overall and 5-2 in league play. Hamilton remains winless in the NESCAC (0-6) and is 3-14 on the season.
Amherst was led offensively by Lauren Antion '15, Maggie Danner '17, and Nicole Gould '17. Antion tallied a match-high 12 kills with a .409 hitting percentage. Danner added double-digit kills with 11 and Gould posted nine of her own. Setting up the offensive attack for the Jeffs was Nicole Carter '16 as she dished out a match-high 35 assists. On the defensive side, Katie Warshaw '16 totaled 16 digs.
The Continentals were led by Erin Casey '15 and Sarah Pfund '14 with eight kills and 26 assists respectively. Three players posted double-digit digs as Emma Lonadier '15 lead the way with 15.
The Jeffs won the first set decisively (25-10). As a team, they posted 13 kills with a .407 attack percentage and held Hamilton to just .032. The Continentals responded in a big way in the second set with 15 kills but fell short 26-24. Amherst pulled away in the third and final set (25-21) to complete the sweep as they connected on 14 kills to Hamilton's eight.
Amherst returns to the court Friday, Oct. 18 to host Colby. Match time is scheduled for 8 p.m. at LeFrak Gymnasium.
