The Amherst women's volleyball team dropped a 3-2 decision to Middlebury early Saturday but rebounded to sweep MIT 3-0 in the later game at the Hall of Fame Tournament.
Saturday's early match against the Panthers was hosted by Mount Holyoke College while the Jeffs match against the Engineers was hosted by Smith College. Amherst finished 2-1 during the weekend tournament.
Amherst 2, Middlebury 3 (21-25, 25-18, 28-30, 25-22, 11-15)
Nicole Carter '16 posted a triple-double but Amherst's nine-game winning streak was snapped against the Panthers in a competitive five-set match. The Jeffs (17-6) defeated Middlebury (16-5) 3-0 earlier in the year.
Defensively, four Jeffs posted double-digit digs led by Katie Warshaw '16 and Carter. Warshaw tallied 22 digs, Carter added 20, Kate Bres '17 posted 16 and Danner completed the double-double with 11 of her own. Carter was also a force at net with 10 total blocks (8 solo, 2 assists).
Megan Jarchow '14 and Amy Hart '14 led Middlebury offensively with 20 and 19 kills respectively. Hannah Blackburn '17 dished out 52 assists and Lizzy Reed '15 totaled 30 digs.
Amherst 3, MIT 0 (26-24, 25-23, 27-25)
Amherst (18-6) responded to its earlier loss with a 3-0 sweep over MIT (19-10) by scores 26-24, 25-23 and 27-25.
Danner and Gould led the team offensively with 11 kills each while Antion and Samantha Newby '16 added seven kills apiece. Carter dished out 35 assists.
Defensively, Warshaw added 26 digs and Kelci Keeno '17 tallied 15.
The Jeffs return to the court Friday, Nov. 1 for a road contest against Wesleyan at 8 p.m.
