MEDFORD, Mass. - The Amherst women's volleyball team fell to 3-2 (0-2 NESCAC) on the young season with a 3-1 (25-21, 23-25, 25-13, 25-21) loss to conference rival Tufts University.
Notching their third-straight win over the Lord Jeffs, the Jumbos improved to 4-2 on the year, while evening their league mark at 1-1.
Hoping to tie the match after a 25-21 first-set loss, Amherst held Tufts to a .026 hitting percentage in the second frame, earning a hard-fought 25-23 win. The Jumbo offense rebounded in the third, piecing together a .306 attack rate before closing out the match with a 25-21 fourth-set triumph.
Emily Waterhouse '13 led the Jeffs with 13 kills, while Lauren Antion '15 finished with 12 kills, 10 digs and four blocks. Nicole Carter '16 dished out 31 assists, while Kristin Keeno '13 collected a match-high 15 digs.
Kelly Brennan '15 paced Tufts with 16 kills and 11 digs, while Jess Ingrum '15 had 15 kills. Kendall Lord '13 handed out 39 helpers, with four Jumbos tallying double-digit kills, led by first-year Carolina Berger's team-high 14.
Amherst returns to action Tuesday, Sept. 18 at Johnson & Wales.
