Volleyball Upends Bates, 3-0

LEWISTON, Maine - Nicole Carter '16 dished out 30 assists and collected 11 digs to lead the Amherst women's volleyball team to a 3-0 (25-16, 25-19, 25-7) sweep of Bates College in both teams' regular season finale.

Improving to 14-8 (7-3 NESCAC), the Jeffs locked up the No. 4 seed in next weekend's NESCAC Championship hosted by Conn. College. Amherst opens quarterfinal action on Friday, Nov. 2 at 8 p.m. against archrival Williams. The Jeffs dispatched of the Ephs, 3-1, in the squads' regular season meeting on Oct. 13.

Holding the Bobcats to a -.029 hitting percentage in a 25-16 first set win, the Jeffs registered 18 kills on 39 swings with seven errors (.256) en route to a 25-19 triumph the following frame. Limiting Bates to a -.089 attack rate in the third, Amherst cruised to a 25-7 victory.

Lauren Antion '15 paced the Jeff attack, hitting .500 with a match-high 12 kills, while Emily Waterhouse '13 and Lizzie Ahern '16 combined for 17 kills and 13 digs. Kristin Keeno '13 set the tone for the visitors defensively, amassing a match-best 23 digs.

Eliza Pyne '13 and Mary Deneen '16 led Bates with five kills apiece, while Miranda Shapiro '15 had 13 assists. Kelsey Berry '16 and Leah Abramson '13 chipped in with 14 and 10 digs, respectively.
