NORTHAMPTON/SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. – The Amherst College volleyball team closed out its weekend by posting a 1-1 record on day two of the Hall of Fame Invitational, as the Jeffs earned a 3-0 win over Brandeis (25-18, 25-17, 25-22) before being blanked by Wellesley (25-15, 25-20, 35-33).
Amherst improves to 17-6 after a 2-1 showing at the two-day invitational, which took place at Smith and Mount Holyoke colleges. Kristin Keeno '13 (Honolulu, Hawaii) represented Amherst on the All-Tournament Team for her solid defensive play throughout the weekend.
The Jeffs hit at a blistering .515 clip during their first set against Brandeis and would finish at .299 for the match. KC Kanoff '12 (Pacific Palisades, Calif.) led the way with 16 kills (.394), followed by Cristy Meier '12 (San Anselmo, Calif.) with 11 (.550) and Lauren Antion '15 (Los Angeles, Calif.) with 10. Callie Neilson '13 (Escondido, Calif.) handed out 42 assists, while Keeno finished with 23 digs.
Wellesley won the first two sets of Saturday's second match convincingly, but the third frame wound up being a 35-33 marathon. Meier registered nine kills (.304), while Kanoff and Antion had eight apiece. Keeno again led the back line with 16 digs, followed by Devin Pence '14 (Los Angeles, Calif.) with 14. Neilson dished out 21 assists, while Antion and Abigail Hunter '13 (Kentfield, Calif.) each had four solo blocks.
The Lord Jeffs will return to action Wednesday, Oct. 26, when they host Smith College at 7 p.m.
