Keeno, Antion Power Volleyball Past Emerson

BOSTON, MA – Junior Kristin Keeno (Honolulu, Hawaii) led the team with 22 digs, while first-year Lauren Antion (Los Angeles, Calif.) added a match-best 17 kills as volleyball earned a 3-1 (28-26, 25-23, 20-25, 27-25) win over Emerson College at Brown-Pfloker Gym in Boston, Mass., improving to 4-1 on the season.

After scoring a hard-fought 28-26 first set win to open the match, Amherst edged the Lions 25-23 in the second before hitting just .104 in a 25-20 third set loss. Hoping to put things away, the Jeffs tallied a match-high .244 hitting percentage in a closely-contested fourth set that featured 14 ties and nine lead changes, securing their fourth win of the season.

Hitting .409, Mary Reiser '12 (New York, N.Y.) added 11 kills and five blocks in the win, while Cristy Meier '12 (San Anselmo, Calif.) finished with 12 kills. Callie Neilson '13 (Escondido, Calif.) dished out a season-high 50 assists while directing the Amherst attack, adding 14 digs. Devin Pence '14 (Los Angeles, Calif.) chipped in with 17 digs, while Antion also notched seven digs and three blocks to go along with her match-high 17 kills.

Megan Kaplon '12 paced Emerson with 15 kills and 12 digs, while Madeleine Breeland '12 finished with 10 kills and 12 digs. Jessica Drumright '12 and Kathleen Bailey '12 combined for 49 assists, with Drumright adding nine kills and 11 digs in the loss. Jamie Morgan '14 helped anchor the Lions' defensive efforts with a match-high 28 digs. 

Amherst returns to action on Friday, Sept. 16 at Wesleyan.
