Amherst Drops Pair at Wesleyan Invitational

MIDDLETOWN, CT – The Amherst College volleyball team suffered a pair of 3-2 non-conference losses at the Wesleyan University Invitational. The Lord Jeffs were edged by the host Cardinals Saturday morning before falling to Trinity College in the afternoon match. Amherst falls to 12-3 on the season but remains at 3-0 in the NESCAC standings.

Sophomore Laura Hyman (Glencoe, IL) hit at a .586 clip on Saturday, picking up seven kills against Wesleyan and 13 against Trinity while committing a combined three errors. Classmate Rachel Yorke (Los Angeles, CA) was just as impressive on defense, as she had 18 digs to kick off the weekend before racking up 38 digs against Trinity.

Senior quad-captain Sara Heller (La Canada, CA) had 28 assists in each match, while sophomore Katherine Jordan (Los Altos Hills, CA) had a combined 28 assists on the day. First-year Katherine Kanoff (Pacific Palisades, CA) had a career-high 18 kills against Wesleyan to go along with a career-high 18 digs.

The Lord Jeffs return to action Thursday, Oct. 9 when they head to Smith College for a 7 p.m. non-conference match.
