Amherst Picks up 3-0 Win at Westfield State

WESTFIELD, MA – The Amherst College volleyball team boosted its record to 14-4 by sweeping Westfield State College (25-14, 25-16, 25-14) in a non-conference match on Wednesday, Oct. 15. The Lord Jeffs return to action Friday, Oct. 17 to host Middlebury College at 8 p.m., while the Owls drop to 8-13 and will return to action Saturday to host Worcester State and Framingham State.

Amherst was led by first-year Cristy Meier (San Anselmo, CA) and sophomore setter Katherine Jordan (Los Altos Hills, CA), who had 16 kills and 22 assists, respectively. Playing well on defense for the Lord Jeffs were sophomore Erin Camp (Santa Monica, CA) and junior Bethany Belisle (Austin, TX), who each had eight digs, while sophomore Jackie Berkley (Fullerton, CA) and senior Alison Munzer (Los Angeles, CA) combined for 10 kills.

Sophomore libero Rachel Yorke (Los Angeles, CA) had 11 digs to go along with two service aces, with Camp adding two aces of her own. Senior quad-captain Sara Heller (La Canada, CA) had eight assists.

Junior Katie Kurty led the Owls with 11 digs, while first-year Alex Wahl had five kills and two blocks. Maura McLaughlin recorded four kills and two blocks, and Kerin DeGirolamo had 15 assists.

After beginning the season with a 12-1 record, the Lord Jeffs are just 2-3 in their last five matches heading into a home NESCAC weekend. After taking on Middlebury Friday night, Amherst will host Hamilton College Saturday at noon.
