Jeffs Survive 5-Game Thriller at Bowdoin for 16th Win

BRUSNWICK¸ ME - The Amherst College volleyball team survived a five-game thriller at Bowdoin College this afternoon for its 16th win of the year. Amherst won the deciding game 15-8 to improve to 16-1 on the season.

The Jeffs played five games for just the second time this season, with the first occasion coming in Amherst's lone loss to Wesleyan on September 28. Amherst received some season high production from a number of players today.

Setter Sara Heller (LaCanada, CA) dished out 54 assists in the match for a season-high, while first-year Rachel Yorke (Los Angeles, CA) recorded a season-high 31 digs.

Amherst had a characteristically strong day from its big three hitters, as senior tri-captains Jaclyn DeMais (Hillsdale, NJ) and Whitney Kouvaris had 21 and 18 kills, respectively. Junior outside-hitter Claire Holton-Basaldua (San Rafael, CA) pulled her weight with 10 kills of her own.

First-year middle-hitter Laura Hyman (Glencoe, IL) paced the Jeff defense with three blocks and added a service ace.

The Lord Jeffs improved to a perfect 4-0 in conference play with the victory and will return to action on Tuesday evening for a non-conference match with Westfield State College at home. The match is scheduled to start at 7 p.m.
