AMHERST, MA & NORTHAMPTON, MA - After taking a forfeit victory over Wheaton College and defeating visiting Brandeis University 30-11, 30-24, 30-19, on Friday night, the Amherst College volleyball team suffered a pair of losses to Williams College and Springfield College on Saturday at the Hall of Fame Invitational Tournament, hosted by Smith College. Amherst senior co-captain Annie Hoeksma (Los Angeles, CA) and Sophomore Kristin Quinn (Los Angeles, CA) earned All-Tournament honors as the Jeffs moved to 21-5.
Quinn paced the Jeffs against Brandeis, posting 11 kills in just 15 attempts. She added eight blocks and two aces as well, while first-year Jaclyn DeMais (Hillsdale, NJ) tallied eight kills and five digs, and fellow rookie Julie Berkley (Fullerton, CA) chipped in a team-high 10 digs. Hoeksma had four kills, 22 assists and four digs, and fellow co-captain Nikki Davidson (Los Angeles, CA) racked up seven kills and eight digs.
Despite being swept by Williams, the Jeffs battled in each game, falling 30-25, 30-23, 30-24. Once again, Quinn led the Amherst attack with 11 kills, closely followed by junior Kate Raddock (Stamford, CT), who posted 10 kills and 12 digs. Hoeksma dished out 29 assists, while Berkley and DeMais played well defensively with 13 and 11 digs, respectively.
Quinn and Davidson led the attack in Amherst's 26-30, 30-22, 30-27, 30-26 loss to Springfield with 16 kills apiece. Quinn added eight blocks and an ace and Davidson chipped in seven digs as well. Hoeksma played a great all-around match with eight kills, 39 assists, 10 digs and an ace. DeMais posted nine kills and 12 assists, and Berkley notched 14 digs.
Amherst wraps up its regular season slate with a trio of NESCAC matches at Middlebury College, facing the host Panthers on Friday and Williams and Hamilton College on Saturday.
