MEDFORD, MA - The undefeated Amherst College volleyball team improved to 8-0 (3-0 NESCAC) with three conference victories over Trinity College, Wesleyan University and Connecticut College at a NESCAC Quad hosted by Tufts University over the weekend. Amherst senior co-captain Annie Hoeksma (Los Angeles, CA) led the way with a combined 109 assists, 15 kills and five blocks.
The Jeffs opened the weekend with a 30-20, 30-23, 30-24 win over Trinity on Friday night. The offensive attack was balanced as sophomore Kristin Quinn (Los Angeles, CA) tallied nine kills, while senior co-captain Nikki Davidson (Los Angeles, CA) posted eight, and juniors Sara Bruggeman (Boulder, CO) and Kate Raddock (Stamford, CT) and first-year Jaclyn DeMais (Hillsdale, NJ) each had seven. Raddock and sophomore Mikela Yarawamai (Kamuela, HI) led the way defensively with 11 and nine digs, respectively.
Amherst opened Saturday with a grueling five-game win over Wesleyan, 30-32, 30-26, 26-30, 30-14, 15-12. Quinn racked up 18 kills, six blocks and three aces in just four games, while DeMais had 15 kills, eight digs and four aces, Davidson posted 10 kills and first-year Julie Berkley (Fullerton, CA) had an outstanding 19 digs. Junior Natalie Soud (Jacksonville, FL) led the Jeffs with eight kills in their 30-23, 30-14, 30-24 win over Conn. College. Bruggeman added seven kills, while Berkley and sophomore Laura Golden (Boca Raton, FL) each had a pair of aces and nine and five digs, respectively.
Amherst returns to action this Friday and Saturday, hosting the Amherst Classic. The Jeffs open tournament play Friday night at 5:30 p.m. against Muhlenberg College.
