Raddock, Allen Carry Amherst Past Western Conn. 3-0

AMHERST, MA – First-year phenom Kate Raddock (Stamford, CT) tallied 10 kills and 13 digs, while senior co-captain Erin Dittus (Brentwood, TN) added nine kills and 16 digs as the Amherst College volleyball team swept defending Little East Conference Champion Western Connecticut State University 3-0 (30-27, 30-19, 30-12) on Friday night. The Jeffs improved to 3-0 with their second win in as many nights, after Thursday evening's marathon 3-2 victory over visiting Smith College.

Amherst used a balanced offensive attack en route to the non-league victory with junior outside hitter Jess Allen (Chagrin Falls, OH) equaling Dittus' nine kills. Junior Lauren Wong (San Francisco, CA), sophomore Annie Hoeksma (Los Angeles, CA) and first-year Sara Bruggeman (Boulder, CO) added six kills each. Hoeksma also had a match-high 29 assists and Bruggeman chipped in on defense with two block solos and eight block assists.

First-year outside hitter Lindsey Gloster (Pine Bush, NY) finished with 12 kills and 12 digs for Western Conn., which fell to 4-2 with the loss.

Amherst returns to action Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Keene State College.
