Volleyball Upends Tufts and Middlebury Before Falling to Williams in NESCAC Postseason Tournament

WILLIAMSTOWN, MA - The third-seeded Amherst College volleyball team recorded a pair of 3-1 victories over sixth-seeded Tufts University and seventh-seeded Middlebury College before falling to arch-rival and top-seeded Williams College, 3-0, in the NESCAC Postseason Championship match on Saturday. The Jeffs - now 21-7 overall - will hope to advance to the NCAA Tournament with an at-large bid.

Amherst opened the tournament with a 3-1 (30-14, 25-30, 30-25, 30-21) win over Tufts University in the NESCAC Quarterfinals on Friday. First-year outside hitter Kate Raddock (Stamford, CT) and senior Erin Dittus (Brentwood, TN) led the Jeffs with 13 kills apiece while junior Jessica Allen (Chagrin Falls, OH) chipped in with nine. The Jeffs were equally impressive in a 3-1 (30-27, 19-30, 30-25, 30-17) victory over Middlebury in the semifinals on Saturday.

Amherst was then downed by the host Ephs 3-0 (15-30, 27-30, 22-30) in the NESCAC Championship contest. Dittus paced the Jeffs with 11 kills while Allen added seven. Junior Lauren Wong (San Francisco, CA) and first-year Sara Bruggeman (Boulder, CO) combined for 12 blocks while senior Irene Lee (Fullerton, CA) notched 25 digs in the loss. With the victory, Williams improves to 33-5 overall and earns an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
