Jeffs Drop Pair at Hall of Fame Invitational

NORTHAMPTON, MA – The Amherst College volleyball team dropped consecutive matches for the first time this season in Day 2 of the Hall of Fame Invitational Tournament at nearby Smith College on Saturday, falling to non-league foes M.I.T. and Gordon College by matching 3-0 scores.

The Jeffs dropped the opener against M.I.T., 30-27, 30-27 and 30-28, despite getting nine kills each from juniors Lauren Wong (San Francisco, CA) and Jess Allen (Chagrin Falls, OH), and eight kills and four digs from senior co-captain Erin Dittus (Brentwood, TN). Sophomore setter Annie Hoeksma (Los Angeles, CA) added 31 assists.

The nightcap brought a second 3-0 loss, this time to Gordon, which also downed Amherst 3-0 on Saturday, September 28. Game scores were 30-25, 30-25 and 30-24. Dittus was once again solid with a team-high nine kills and three total blocks. Sophomore outside hitter Nicole Davidson (Los Angeles, CA) – who has rebounded nicely from an early-season ankle injury – chipped in with eight kills and four service aces.

Now 18-5 overall, Amherst will close its regular season slate with the Little Three Championship Tournament this Saturday at Williams College. The Jeffs have already secured the third seed in the NESCAC Postseason Championship Tournament, where they'll open against sixth-seeded Tufts University on Friday, November 8, at Williams.
