NORTHAMPTON, Mass. – Sam Tichelaar posted a top-50 mark in the nation in the long jump to headline a strong day by the Mammoths at the non-scoring Mary Grinaker Invitational, as the Amherst College women's track & field team continued to chip away at times across the board Saturday at Smith College.
The Mammoths return to action next weekend, Friday-Saturday, Jan. 24-25 when they split the squad and compete at the BU John Thomas Terrier Classic and the Cornell Upstate Challenge.
- Annelise Romero posted the Mammoths' third best time of the season in the 800m, clocking a 2:34.50 mark to take 10th in the 36-harrier race.
- Olivia Polischeck clocked a sub-5:30 time in the mile in her first race of the season, while Ella Rossa took the top spot in the 60m-hurdles with a time of 9.33 after notching the 11th fastest time in the nation last weekend (9.16).
- With Amherst's second best distance in the high jump this winter, Kaitlyn Siegel clinched third in the 16-competitor event.
- Setting a new personal best in the long jump to hit No. 43 on the top-50 list, Tichelaar touched the sand at 5.48m to earn the silver.
