Scartelli Moves into Third All-Time in Amherst History In 1500m at NEICAAA's

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Three individual women and a relay team competed in this past weekend's Open New England Championship while the quartet of Samantha Tichelaar '22, Juanita Jaramillo '22, Sophia Friedman '21, and Anna Madden '22 ran their second-best time of the season through the two-day competition.

The Mammoths return to the track on Wednesday, May 15th, when the Purple & White travel to Williamstown, Massachusetts to compete in the Williams Final Qualifier beginning at 5:00 PM.

RESULTS

  • Christina Scartelli '19 took to the track in the 1500m race, pacing the Mammoths and finishing with a time of 4:31.92 before Sarah Gayer '21 surged three times during her heat and toed the line not long afterwards (4:49.36) Scartelli ran a patient and strategic race as she reeled in her competition over the final 800m, finishing third all-time in Amherst history with an official time of 4:31.92 which was good for an 8th place finish overall.
  • Ella Rossa '21 posted an impressive first half of the race during the 100H prelims Friday evening, however, a clipped hurdle late in the race resulted in a 25th place finish with a time of 15.94.
  • The Women's 4x400m relay concluded the Mammoths day as they ran their second-best time of the season. The quartet of Samantha Tichelaar '22, Juanita Jaramillo '22, Sophia Friedman '21, and Anna Madden '22, who have produced some of the fastest relays in Amherst history, finished with a time of 3:57.58.
