MEDFORD, Mass. – The Amherst College women's track & field team competed in their final tune up before the NCAA Indoor Championships, with the squad hitting the track at the Tufts Last Chance meet at the Gantcher Center with bids for nationals up for grabs.
Amherst returns to action next weekend, March 8-9, when qualifying individuals compete at the two-day 2019 NCAA Indoor Championships at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston, Mass.
- Taking to the track in the 60m hurdle prelim, sophomore Ella Rossa rose to the occasion with time of 8.99 seconds, equal to her season best to earn a spot in the finals only a few hours later. In a very close final match up, Rossa finished second overall with a season best mark of 8.97 seconds - landed her on the national rankings list at No. 16 out of 20 qualifiers.
- The 4x400m relay put on a show to close out the day for the Mammoths, with the strong, speedy squad of Sam Tichelaar, Juanita Jaramillo, Sophia Friedman, and Anna Madden - fresh off last week's school record - fighting against Bowdoin from start to finish in an epic race. Taking second place in the end, the quartet set another new school record with a spectacular time of 3:55.38 to sit in the No. 13 spot in the country.
